Still Woozy makes New York Sway

Still Woozy is one of my favorite artists at the moment. His eclectic sound, soothing voice, and overall artistry drew me straight in from “Goodie Bag” to his newest album, Loveseat. You can read all about Loveseat here, from a chat we had with Still Woozy and Universal Music Group’s °1824.

I was looking forward to attending this show over the summer, until a massive multi-day storm rained out my plans to see Woozy at the Rooftop at Pier 17. Pushed to October, I waited an extra few months, and I promise it was worth the wait.

Opener MICHELLE, a NYC-based pop group, started the night off right. Performing hits from their three albums Heatwave, After Dinner We Talk Dreams, and Songs About You Specifically, the six-piece band combined the joy of watching a musical theater performance with a concert lifestyle. With scripted dance routines, singers Jamee, Emma, Layla, and Sofia made this hometown show one to remember.

Woozy is a dynamic performer. From his beautiful lyricism to innate ability to perform, Sven and the band kept the crowd moving all the way until New York’s 10 pm curfew. Starting with “Again”, Woozy jumped out from side stage at the beat drop and captured everyone’s attention. His first three songs were from three different Woozy eras, starting with 2024’s Loveseat, to 2020’s Window, and concluding with 2021’s Get By. Being in the pit during these songs can only be described as electric. Even I was moving to the beat in the photo pit, dancing with the band as Woozy made the Rooftop’s stage his home for the night.

My favorite thing about Sven is his interactions with everyone in the building. Not only does he highlight his band members (that he’s been playing with since the beginning, I learned post-show from my Still Woozy-loving friends) multiple times throughout the show, he also makes the crowd aware of his gratefulness to them. During the show, Woozy jumped off the stage into the pit, danced with his fans and sang directly to them. Band members followed suit, with Legwurk, Woozy’s bassist, joining the party later on. Still Woozy encouraged everyone to feel silly and sexy, embracing the night through singing and dancing like nobody was watching.
