Um, who’s that? It’s JVB, and they know how to put. on. a. SHOW! The hip hop duo, consisting of Joseph Bertolino and Braedan Lugue, rose to prominence with the release of “Punk Tactics” in 2022. Their second album, “NO HANDS” was released in June of this year. I learned of JVB this summer thanks to Joey Valence’s epic TikTok presence, where he consistently posted clips of their song “THE BADDEST (BADDER)” featuring Ayesha Erotica until it’s early release due to viral fame. Most recently, the duo dropped the deluxe version of “NO HANDS” complete with a cover of Charli XCX’s “365”. It was a brat summer for everyone, including JVB!
Many things originally drew me to these boys. From their Beastie Boy’s sound and 90’s flair to their captivating stage presence, Joey Valence and Brae were on my concert list all summer. When September 20th rolled around, I ran to Chelsea to see JVB perform a sold-out show at Racket. It was everything I hoped for and more! The setlist was killer, and I won’t spoil ‘cus it’s that good. Godly the Ruler’s set and the pre-show DJ set, mixed by JVB’s DJ, was filled with throwbacks and punk beats. If there’s one thing Joey Valence and Brae know how to do, it’s jump like their lives depend on it while spitting iconic verses!
