Haiden Henderson is bringing back boy-band mentality with just himself and a drummer on stage, and we’re obsessed with it. The 23 year old singer-songwriter recently hit the road opening for emo-pop sensation Chandler Leighton on “The Sick Tour”. On Wednesday, August 21st, the pair played a sold-out show at Mercury Lounge in NYC. We loved covering Haiden’s opening set at the Bowery Ballroom with Landon Barker so much that we came back for round two!
Haiden’s newest EP, titled lover boy, consists of six alternative-pop songs that highlight the singer’s rocker image and boyish charm. His stage presence partnered with his crowd interaction is what really drew me to Haiden in the first place. His energy is electric and you can tell the singer lovesssss New York City. Having conversations with the crowd in-between songs, Haiden’s personality and swagger stole the show.
My favorite song of Haiden’s, “bleachers”, is also the song I enjoyed the most live due to the fans having a part in it. During the chorus, Haiden invites the audience to sing along in a series of “nah nah nahs” after the lyrics “and the crowd will go!” Every crowd member gets really into it and Haiden enjoys having his lyrics sung back to him. It’s a really cute interaction between an artist and a fan base, and one that I was very excited to see again in person.
From his sound to his style, Haiden is a key player in the growth in popularity of Gen Z musicians. We’re so excited for his future!
